SCHOOL REFORM COMMISSION APPROVES CREATION OF POLICY COMMITTEE
PHILADELPHIA—Today, the School Reform Commission (SRC) approved the creation of a policy committee that will review policies that impact students and staff. The creation of this committee builds upon the work the SRC has done to increase transparency and accessibility as a large number of policies are developed and reviewed.
Last year, the SRC began a process to review and update the District’s policies, working closely with the Administration to draft, review, and adopt policies in a timely manner. This new committee will be chaired by SRC Member Dr. Christopher McGinley and include SRC Chair Joyce Wilkerson.
“The Policy Committee will create a space to hear from the public, experts in the field, and other stakeholders as we develop and refine District policies,” said Committee Chair, Dr. Christopher McGinley. “The public’s input is an important part of this process as this policy committee seeks to review policies that impact our students and staff in schools.”
- Once policies are reviewed at the Committee level, they will be recommended for public review at the next SRC Action meeting or recommended for further review by District staff.
- The first Policy Committee meeting will be held on April 6th at 9am at School District Headquarters.
- A public notice and meeting materials will be posted online in the coming days.
- The Policy Committee will be made up of two SRC Commissioners (Chair Wilkerson and Dr. McGinley) as well as the Superintendent or his designee.
